Cosens Successfully Defends IFL Middleweight Title

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, Charlie Cosens successfully defended his middleweight title for the Impact Fight League at the Place of Auburn Hills.  Cosens

was going up against a 7-2 fighter named Cody Wall fighting out of the American Muscle Gym in Grand Rapids, MI. There was a crowd of 2,000 to 3,000 people at the Palace.  As the fighters walked to the cage they walked down a 300ft catwalk with flames shooting up 10 to 15ft in the air.  The atmosphere was electric with the music booming and the fans cheering.

As the bout began, Wall immediately shot for a single leg takedown that was stuffed immediately by Cosens. It was evident that Wall did not want this to be astandup fight.  Cosens dominated the fight choosing his shots from side control, throwing heavy knees from the clinch,  and working off the cage.  Midway through the 3rd round Cosens was able to land some heavy shots from side control that ultimately ended the fight.

The main difference between an average fighter and a true mixed martial artist is the time, dedication, and sacrifice that is put into training.  Cosens is a veteran of mixed martial arts that truly understands what it takes to get it done in the cage.  He attributes a huge amount of his success to the incredible amount of support he gets from his students at Cosens MMA.

Charlie Cosens Returns to the Cage September 10th

After taking a few months off from fighting to coach and train, Charlie Cosens is set to return to the cage.  The fight is

scheduled for September 10th at the Meadowbrook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, Michigan.  This show is being hosted by Donofrio Entertainment. Charlie will be taking on Kris Lusch at 185lbs.  Kris Lusch is currently ranked number 2 in the state of Michigan in the middleweight division.  This fight will be for the Donofrio 185lb Championship.  Charlie Cosens and Kris Lusch are not strangers.  They fought 2 years ago in Ypsilanti, Michigan for the “Road to Dubai” which was partly hosted by Dan Severn.  We would like to get as many fans as possible to support Charlie for this fight.  This is by far the biggest fight of his career and he could use the support!  We will be posting updates along the way as he trains for this event.

Wesley Dinan, Charlie Cosens, Ed Kirby and Mike MartinezThe event had former UFC fighters in attendance signing autographs and taking pictures.  Mike Martinez won his fight via tap out.  His jiu jitsu looked amazing as he swept his opponent and ended up in full mount. Wesley Dinan won his first title fight and brought home the Big Red Entertainment Heavyweight Belt! He won the fight with a perfect knee to the face of his opponent. The fight ended at 2:59 of round 1. Ed Kirby had no trouble with his opponent taking care of him in the first round via tap out due to knees to the body.  There’s a difference between cage fighters and mixed martial artists.  We are proud to say that each and every one of our fighters are mixed martial artists.  They train hard and prepare their bodies for competition every single time.  Congratulations guys!

Cosens MMA Fighters Ready to Battle July 23rd in Cadillac, MI

Three fighters from Cosens MMA have been getting their bodies prepared for battle on July 23. Big Red Entertainment and Undisputed MMA will be hosting a show at the Wexford Civic Arena in Cadillac, MI. The event has been titled “Battlefield”. This should be a stacked card with excellent fighters.  Fighting out of Cosens MMA will be Mike Martinez (4-3) taking on Jacob Bledso (0-1).  Mike’s been training hard and feels ready for this fight.  Wesley Dinan (5-3) looks to obtain his first heavyweight title as he takes on Jake Hendrikson (3-1) for the Big Red Entertainment/Undisputed MMA Heavyweight Championship.  It should be a complete war as both of these men are veteran fighters.  Also stepping in the cage from Cosens MMA will be Ed Kirby (3-0) taking on Chad Weston (0-0).  Ed’s looking to keep his record perfect and move on to 4-0.

Veteran female fighter, Crystal Starkey, also of Cosens MMA, was scheduled to fight in this event.  Unfortunately, Crystal has had several opponents back out and is not currently matched.  It’s difficult to find experienced female fighters in Michigan.  Crystal is always willing to step in the cage!  If anyone knows a female 125-135er with a decent record that is interested in a title shot please get ahold of Big Red Entertainment.
