Jiu Jitsu Classes

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is part of our Introduction to MMA Program.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger asailant by using leverage and proper technique, most notably by applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no gi) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”) and live drilling play a major role in training and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through the grades/belts.

Bay City Jiu Jitsu ClassesGi Jiu Jitsu Program

Our ji jiu jitsu program is great for beginners or people with experience.  What many of our members prefer about our Gi program is that they can be belted and monitor their progress easily.  You will know exactly what you have to do to move up the belting system.

No Gi Jiu Jitsu Program

No gi jiu jitsu is faster paced than gi jiu jitsu. It’s an excellent way to lose weight and to learn self defense.  There is no formal belting system for this type of jiu jitsu.  We strongly recommend no gi jiu jitsu for our members that are looking to compete in mixed martial arts.  It gives you more practical knowledge than when you are wearing the gi. There are certain moves and submissions that you cannot do with a gi on.

Grappling is fun, first and foremost, and does not require any previous experience. Anyone can do it, big people, small people, young people, older people, flexible people, non-flexible people, experienced people, non-experienced people, anyone. It’s one of the easiest ways to lose weight while having a good time!
